   Rumiko Takahashi Anthology
I've only rented one disc of this series so far, but I like it! Each episode has a new set of characters and problems, so there is never a continuing story. So far the series seems very interesting. I'm looking forward to the next disc!

   Jubilations!
Last Tuesday I got the very latest MacBook. It is truly beautiful and much faster than any computer I have thus used. My very own laptop! I am linked to the world once again!

As you must have already realized, RedViolin, this means emails, emails, emails galore!

So, I shall be talking about anime a couple of times a week once more.

   Lamentations
The "temporary PC laptop" I have been forced to use since my iBook died this summer caught a cold. As a direct result of this virus the Hardrive must be completely cleared and all software must be re-installed. This could take a while, so I am once again without a computer to call my own. PCs are scary to me. They can get viruses so easily, this is part of the reason I want a new MacBook.

So I may not be able to write a new post for a while. RedViolin, I hope I can reach you sometime this week on the phone, as I won't be able to e-mail for a while.

In frustration,

   Best Student Council
This anime series is surprising and always fun. The main character Rino Rando is cute and enthusiastic. The series starts with Rino on her way to a very private girls school after her mother has died. Her only companion, a puppet named Pucchan who can talk without the need of ventriloquism. Unusual does not even cover this anime.

Miyagami Private Academy is run by the Miyagami Academy Maximum Authority Wielding Best Level Student Council (seriously), also known as the Best Student Council, which consits of exceptionally talented students. The special talents of the members of the Best Student Council is what sets them apart from the rest of the student body. Most members of the Best Student Council are recruited by Kanade Jinguuji, the executive director and founder of Miyagami Academy. The students have all the power in this school. The Best Student Council has an Assault Squad, a Covert Squad (only the president of the Best Student Council knows who every one in the Covert Squad is, thus the name), and a Treasurer who is really more of an accountant.

The characters are all distinct and intriguing. Most main characters have some kind of mystery about them that keeps the story interesting. The best example of a character of mystery is Kanade Jinguuji herself, we only find out her secrets in the penultimate episode.

I enjoyed this series. It was interesting, unexpeted, silly and often downright kooky. I recommend this series to anyone who's bored and needs something fun to distract them.

   Paniponi Dash!
This is one of the spoof-iest anime I have ever seen. It's pretty hilarious. There are quite a few characters all with their own little quirks and catch-phrases.

This is one of those anime that goes off on plenty of tangents. Sometimes the "camera" will pan out and the scene will look like the set of a tv show. And throughout the show the background characters all look like identical mannequines! These filler characters don't move and their color is diminished so the main characters stand out. The RANDOMNESS!

If you don't mind storylines that go nowhere, wierd school-girls, aliens that haven't got a clue, a strange rabbit-like creature who talks (and periodically almost dies), a creepy cat who lives in a vending machine claiming to be god, and an uber-cute 11-year-old teacher that talks tough but bursts into tears if anyone talks back, this is the show for you. (That sentence was unnecessarily long!)

It's amazing how many school-based anime there are! My next post is about one such as well.

   Mezzo
Um...heh...well...
It is something I'll never watch again. That is true. It is a little too racy for me. There is a lot of violence, vulgar sexual references, and near nudity. The story is alright, and the characters are interesting enough. There were two things about the series that made me want to watch it through. The loyalty and comradery of the main three (and inevitably four) characters was fun to witness, and there was an element of fun that softened the edges on the prevalent bloodshed. At least it wasn't a stupid show. There were a few deep story arcs in the thirteen episodes. Betrayal was a strong theme among the three protagonists lives, but never between each other.

Though the series definitely had immoral aspects, the constant thread of trust and affection between friends and partners was nice to see.

The reason I wouldn't want to see it again is that I can't take all that violence and lasciviousness. I wouldn't recommend it to the wide world, but that doesn't mean there weren't good parts too. I just wish the good outweighed the bad.

   Doki Doki School Hours
Ah, such a sad little series. It tries so hard to be Azumanga Daioh but never makes it. It is cute, silly, and frequently stupid, but mostly cute.

The "story" centers around a 27-year old teacher who looks like she's 8 years old. This is somewhat interesting as I was expecting the teacher to be another young prodigy who teaches kids a few years older than herself. Like Negima from the show of the same name or Becky from Paniponi Dash! So in that respect it is unique, at least to me, but it was definitely lacking in intelligence, and often a cohesive storyline.

If I'm going to be honest, it's just not that good. So don't waste your time and go straight to Azumanga Daioh if you want school-based silliness and fun.

   The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Well...The animation was good. The characters are funny, cute, and they each look different. I especially liked Haruhi's many hair do's in episode 01. That was hilarious.

This series is very silly and funny. It could have ended after episode 06. But it didn't. I love the episode where Haruhi sings "live!" The songs sound much better in Japanese, and they make much more sense. They tried to translate the songs to English for the English dub, but they failed to produce anything good.

There are some deep moments in the show, like when Haruhi tells Kyon about her moment of realization when she knew her life (which she had been happy with) suddenly became insignificant to her. It's an interesting story and you feel for Haruhi. But mostly the show bounces off the wall in several directions, and you'll never know what's going to happen next. (Most of the time I stared at the screen with my mental mouth agape in a state of slight shock and confusion.)

I wouldn't recommend this show to everyone, but it's alright. Though I could have gone without some of the stupider "moe" moments.

Oh, and there's this cute dance in the end credits, I want to learn it someday.

I don't want to give practically any of it away to those who will watch the series in the future. Besides if I typed up a complete summary no one would believe me anyway.

And on that note,

   ARG!!!
No I did not suddenly turn into a pirate. I am just extremely displeased. My faithful iBook has died. Or at least it's "logic board" has fried. And so I can no longer use my old, yet useful iBook G4. I am not amused. It is unlikely that a new mac laptop will drop miraculously onto my lap anytime in the near future, so I will not be able to keep up with my postings. Sorry RedViolin. (This means my emails to you will dry up. We will simply have to talk on the phone, so call whenever you feel like it. Even late, it's likely I'll be up.)

I will try to enter every contest I can find that names a MacBook Air as a prize, so keep hope alive.

   K.O. Beast
Well...It was stupid. Funny, but stupid. I just didn't feel like watching the whole series through, so I cancelled the other DVD. The story seemed fine enough, there was nothing very objectionable about the anime, it was just stupid, and I'm not in the mood for that right now.

Oh, and the animation was weird. Three main male characters were so skinny I wondered where their organs lived!?
